MUSIC THERAPY AND MENTAL HEALTH
How music can alter the experience of Mental Health concerns such as: Anxiety, Depression, Selective Mutism, Bereavement and Low self-esteem.
I would use music to work on self esteem and the freedom to be playful and allow any issues around mental health problems to arise within our work together. We would look at these issues together and find a way of moving forwards in a positive way. The process might involve interactive music-making, song writing and looking at pre-written songs together. We would talk about the processes we embark on together in order to find out what they might tell us about the client's experience and outlook moving forwards. Music can help to inform and shape this process of self-exploration and self-discovery. Sometimes, the talking is the focal point for processing and moving forwards and sometimes the music. Very often, it is the combination of the two!
