MUSIC THERAPY AND DEMENTIA OR PARKINSONS DISEASE

How music can help with memory, attention and gait.

Singing favourite songs can be a fun and motivating way of working on language skills as well as evoking forgotten memories and bringing the client in to a positive interactional experience with me as a therapist and carers. Often, Dementia can feel very lonely and confusing for sufferers and also for carers - through music therapy, connections can be remade and this is a wonderful thing to be part of.

Parkinson's disease can cause issues with walking and I am able to help provide a programme of activities in order to help prolong an even gait for as long as possible.  This has knock on effects on the overall health of the client as being able to walk for longer increases overall fitness and wellbeing.
